In order to maintain the Enrolled Agent designation you will need to successfully complete our 30 hour Tax Course annually which includes the required two hours of ethics. With this tax course, not only will you exceed the annual IRS minimum requirements for EAs, you will also meet the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) more rigorous CPE standards, which require a minimum of 30 hours of CPE be completed annually.
NAEA requirements for membership exceed the Internal Revenue Service’s standards: members, associates and academic associates must acquire 30 hours of CPE per calendar year. NAEA requires members attest to the number of CE hours taken on a yearly basis, prior to or concurrent with the renewal process. Members attest to the hours taken during the preceding calendar year. In accordance with IRS requirements for enrollment renewal, members and associates must earn at least 2 hours of Ethics in each calendar year.
EA CPE Requirements
Course Prerequisites: High school diploma or high school diploma equivalent is recommended. Current registration as an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service is required. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) also require individuals to possess a valid Personal Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
Enrolled Agents renew their license on a staggered schedule, based on the last digit of the enrolled agent’s social security number. The current fee for renewal is $30.00 per year. To be eligible for renewal for the enrollment cycle, Enrolled Agents must complete 72 continuing professional education (CPE) credit hours for the three year cycle, with a minimum of 16 CPE per year. Two CPE credit hours per year must be in Ethics. We will then report your course completion to the IRS, course completions are reported quarterly. About the EA CPE Course
Course Description: The EA CPE 30 Hour CE Personal and Business Entities course is designed for tax preparers who are looking to complete a tax course that will meet the 30 hour EA Continuing Professional Education annual income tax course requirement. This tax course (IRS Provider #JK8E2) is actually three tax classes in one. The learning objectives expected to be achieved after completion of this tax course includes a better understanding of the following tax topics.
Tax class #1 covers the Personal Income Tax Return, Form 1040 (including Schedule C), the Partnership Tax Return, Form 1065, and the Corporate Tax Return, Form 1120. Specific topics include the tax treatment of non-business and business income, adjustments to personal income, tax credits and tax payments, tax differences between S and C corporations. Contribution of capital and distributions of income and capital and depreciation. The tax class IRS approval number is JK8E2-T-00119-19-S and provides 25 hours of CPE credit. Tax class #2 covers current personal and business tax return updates. Topics include updates to Individual Retirement Accounts, tax credits, capital gains (including the new form 8949), and the updated mileage reimbursement rates. The tax class IRS approval number is JK8E2-U-00109-19-S and provides three hours of CPE credit. Tax class #3 covers ethical issues for the EA. Issues involving the possession of tax records, charging of fees for the preparation of taxes and when is a tax practitioner acting in a disreputable or incompetent manner, are reviewed. The tax class IRS approval number is JK8E2-E-00110-19-S and provides two hours of CPE credit.
Course Organization: This course is presented in an online format. Students create a login I.D. and password to access the course. Once purchased, the course is available for six months. Reading assignments cover the topics in a step-by-step fashion. Each reading assignment is then followed by a one or two part quiz presented in a multiple choice format. The quiz questions will test knowledge of the completed reading assignment. Once answers are submitted the student will be provided with an answer key and feedback, also provided online. Once all of the quizzes are completed, the student will then need to complete a final test that will review all of the topics covered. (Note that completion of the quizzes is not mandatory). The student will receive a pass or fail grade on the final test but, unlike the quizzes, will not be provided with an answer key or any feedback (to comply with IRS guidelines regarding final testing). All quizzes and the final test must be completed with a passing grade of 70% or better in order to meet the 30 hour CPE requirement and receive a Certificate of Completion. Course completion is then reported to the IRS by Platinum Professional Services.

A course evaluation is also provided at the conclusion of the course. The Certificate of Completion is emailed to the student immediately following the successful completion of the course.
The reading material is built within the course with an option to print it out if you prefer to work offline. A series of quiz review questions will then test your understanding of key topics. In addition, one final test will be given at the end of the course. The tax course is available to you for six months upon registration.
