2012 CTEC CPE 20 Hour - Advanced Topics
In order to maintain the CRTP designation you will need to successfully complete our 20 Hour California Tax Course which will allow you to continue to prepare tax returns for compensation in California.
CTEC CPE RequirementsThe California Tax Education Council (CTEC) requires that you complete 20 hours of continuing professional tax education cpe by October 31st of each year. Once you complete our CTEC Continuing Professional Education Tax Course you will receive a Certificate of Completion. Platinum will report your completion to CTEC electronically. You then be able to register online at www.ctec.org. The fee is $25.00 to register with CTEC. Starting November 1, 2012, CTEC's late fee will increase from $15 to $55. Additionally, CRTPs who do not renew their registration by January 15, 2013, and each year thereafter, will have to re-take the 60-hour qualifying education course, pass a competency exam from an approved education provider and register as a new CRTP. The new policy will shorten the grace period from 12 months to 10 weeks.
About the CTEC CPE Course
The tax course (CTEC ID # 2052-CE-0017 and IRS Provider # JK8E2) is actually four tax classes in one. Tax Class #1 covers advanced tax topics including the IRS Appeal program, the ITIN program, abusive and frivolous tax schemes and military and international taxpayer topics including related schedules and forms (IRS course #JK8E2-T-00010-12-S), and provides ten hours of CE credit. Tax Class #2 covers 2012 personal and business tax updates. Topics include the Non-Business Energy Property Credit, IRAs, capital gains (including the new form 8949), and standard mileage rate updates ( IRS course #JK8E2-T-00005-12-S) and provides three hours of CE credit. Tax Class #3 covers ethical issues for the tax practitioner. Issues involving the possession of tax records, charging of fees for the preparation of taxes and when is a tax practitioner acting in a disreputable or incompetent manner, are reviewed (IRS course #JK8E2-T-00002-12-S) and provides two hours of CE credit. The three combined classes will meet the IRS requirement for the minimum number of CE credit hours for 2012 and the tax updates and ethics requirements. Tax Class #4, The California Franchise Tax Board form 540, is also covered in this course providing an additional 5 hours of CTEC CE credit (CTEC Course #2052-17) completed the 20 hour CE requirement. A series of 200 questions will then test your understanding of key tax topics. Reading links are built within the tax course. The tax course is available to you for six months upon registration.
