In order to maintain the Enrolled Agent designation you will need to successfully complete our 24 hour EA Advanced Topics Retirement, Rental Real Estate, Gift Taxes, Estates and Trusts tax course annually which includes the required two hours of ethics. With this tax course, there is no need to worry about whether or not you have met all of the IRS minimum requirements for EAs. Completion of our 24 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit per year, including two hours of ethics, will insure that the 72 hours of CPE credit that must be completed every three years is met.

EA CPE Requirements

Course Prerequisites:  High school diploma or high school diploma equivalent is recommended as well as completion of our Personal Income Tax Return course.  Current registration as an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service is required. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) also require individuals to possess a valid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). 

Enrolled Agents renew their license on a staggered schedule, based on the last digit of the enrolled agent’s social security number. The current fee for renewal is $30.00 per year.  To be eligible for renewal for the enrollment cycle, Enrolled Agents must complete 72 continuing professional education (CPE) credit hours for the three year cycle, with a minimum of 16 CPE per year.  Two CPE credit hours per year must be in Ethics. We will then report your course completion to the IRS, course completions are reported quarterly.

About the EA CPE Course

Course Description: The EA CPE 24 Hour CE Advanced Topics Retirement, Rental Real Estate, Gift taxes, Estates and Trusts course is designed for tax preparers who are looking to complete a tax course that will meet the 24 hour EA continuing professional education annual income tax course requirement (IRS Provider #JK8E2). Our tax course is actually three tax classes in one. The learning objectives expected to be achieved after completion of this tax course includes a better understanding of the following tax topics.

Platinum's 19-Hour federal tax law tax course covers advanced topics including retirement, rental real estate, gift taxes, estates and trusts. Topics include estate and gift tax returns, a summary of the most common trusts, the IRS appeals process, IRA and other pensions, rental income and expenses, royalties, abusive and frivolous tax schemes, and military and international taxpayer topics (IRS course # JK8E2-T-00134-20-S) and provides nineteen hours of CPE credit. Platinum's 3-Hour federal tax law updates covers personal and business tax return updates. Topics include fundamental inflationary changes that will be used to prepare tax returns ( IRS course #JK8E2-U-00124-20-S) and provides three hours of CPE credit. Platinum's 2-Hour ethics course covers ethical issues for the Enrolled Agent. Issues involving the possession of tax records, charging of fees for the preparation of taxes and when is a tax practitioner acting in a disreputable or incompetent manner, are reviewed (IRS course #JK8E2-E-00125-20-S) and provides two hours of ethics CPE credit. Upon completing this course you will have an understanding of specialized tax returns and when to file including IRS Form 709 for gift taxes and IRS Form 1041 for estates and trust, IRS Form 8949 for sales of capital assets.  You will also gain an understanding of other topics including Generation Skipping Transfer Tax and the different types of trusts that exist as well as contributions and distributions from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA).   

Course Organization: Students create a login I.D. and password and have access to the course 24/7.  The course is presented in an online E-Book format making the reading material portable if you prefer to work offline. Each reading assignment is then followed by a one or two part quiz presented in a multiple choice format. A series of quiz review questions will then test your understanding of key topics. The answers are submitted online and will be automatically graded. The student will be provided with important feedback and answer key to all quiz questions. Once all of the quizzes are completed, the student will then need to complete a final exam that will review all of the topics covered. The student will receive a pass or fail grade on the final exam but, unlike the quizzes, the student will not be provided with an answer key or any feedback (to comply with IRS guidelines regarding final testing). All quizzes and the final exam(s) must be completed with a passing grade of 70% or better in order to meet the 24 hour CE requirement and receive a Certificate of Completion. The student has unlimited tries to pass the quizzes and the final exam(s). (Note that the completion of the quizzes is not mandatory).  Discussion forums are available within the courseOur "Student Course Forum" is available to chat with other students in the same course and our "General Student Forum" is available to chat with students in all courses. The Certificate of Completion can be printed by the student within the course and is also emailed to the student immediately following the successful completion of the course. Course completions are then reported to the IRS and, if applicable, to CTEC by Platinum Professional Services. The tax course is available to the student for six months upon registration. Our current courses are based upon the IRS's most recently available tax laws, forms, and schedules. We provide all students with tax updates throughout the year on our Platinum Blog site.
