EA Review Course Part 2: Businesses

Important Notice; As of July 24 2015 the IRS is now offering 5 hours of Federal Tax Law credit for each Part 1 and Part 2. They are also offering 2 hours of Ethics for Part 3. For a total of 12 hours for all three parts. In the past credit was only permitted for Part 1 Preparation Programs.

With our EA Exam Review Course - Businesses, you will discover if you possess the tax knowledge required to successfully pass Part 2 of the IRS Enrolled Agent Exam (also known as the Special Enrollment Examination or the SEE).  The course will highlight to you those subjects that you may need to gain additional knowledge in and will provide direct links to IRS publications, instructions and forms that will help you obtain the additional knowledge you may need.  The course covers all of the key areas of taxation related to business entity returns.

IRS EA Requirements

There are two tracks to become an IRS Enrolled Agent, which are outlined in Treasury Department Circular 230, Regulations Governing the Practice of Attorneys, Certified Public Accountants, Enrolled Agents, Enrolled Actuaries, and Appraisers. All candidates are also subjected to a rigorous background check conducted by the IRS.  The two tracks are listed below.

1. Online examination

You can become an Enrolled Agent by demonstrating special competence in tax matters by taking a online Enrolled Agent examination administered by Prometric. This track requires that you -

o Apply to take the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE);
o Achieve passing scores on all three parts of the SEE;
o Apply for enrollment on IRS Form 23; and
o Pass a background check to ensure that you have not engaged in any conduct that would justify the suspension or disbarment of an attorney, CPA, or enrolled agent from practice before the IRS.

2. IRS experience

You can become an enrolled agent by virtue of past service and technical experience with the IRS (as an employee of the IRS) that qualifies you for enrollment. This track requires that you -

o Possess the years of past service and technical experience specified in Circular 230;
o Apply for enrollment on IRS Form 23; and
o Pass a background check to ensure that you have not engaged in any conduct that would justify the suspension or disbarment of an attorney, CPA, or enrolled agent from practice before the IRS.

The SEE Exam consists of three parts: Individuals; Businesses; and Representation, Practice and Procedures (Ethics).  Each part consists of 100 multiple choice questions.  The exam is a “closed book” exam.  You are not allowed to bring any reference material with you into the exam and no reference material will be provided to you at the exam site.  The exam is administered at sites throughout the U.S. by a contracted company (Prometric).
