  • STEP 1: Follow this Link to the IRS and California Tax Publication sites at the bottom of this page to download the required reading material. Publications sometimes take a minute or two to download, so please be patient. For the Federal Questions you will need the 2008 Publication 17, Your Federal Income Tax Booklet, (Primarily pages 131 - 197); IRS Publication 334, Tax Guide for Small Business; and for the State Questions you will need the 2008 California Personal Income Tax  Booklet , the Guidelines for Determining Resident Status Booklet, (Publication 1031) and Supplemental Guidelines to California Adjustments, (Publication 1001). You will need the freely available Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the Publications.

  • STEP 2: Link to the Online Enrollment Form  here. Be prepared to complete the Form.  You will need a Visa, Mastercard, Discover Card or American Express Card for payment and your assigned CTEC number.  Your CTEC number starts with the letter "A" and is followed by a series of numerical digits.  Please make note of your self-selected User Name and Password, as you will need this information to login to the Course.  You can go directly to the course at www.PlatinumProStudies.com/elearning.

  • STEP 3: Once enrolled you may start the Course.  The 20 Hour Continuing Exam consists of a total of nine units.  Each unit has 15 to 20 questions.  Once a unit is started, you must complete it in its entirety in order to save your answers.  Once you submit your answers, at the end of each unit, you will immediately receive a grade for that unit.  A passing score of 70% or better is required to successfully complete each unit.  Once graded, you will have the option of viewing any questions that were answered incorrectly.  If you do not pass, you may retake each unit, up to a total of five times, at no additional charge.

  • STEP 4: When you have completed the last unit of the course, and all previous units are complete click the "Go Back" button on the unit 9 grading page (the page that gives you your unit score). Next, click the blue arrow button. You will then be navigated to a page, with a header reading "TAX 20 Print Certificate of Completion", click the blue arrow again when on this page. Next, navigate to the home page of the e-learning site. Click the sea-green color course button, and then scroll-down to the option "TAX 20 Print Certificate of Completion", click on this. You will then be notified of your certificate of completion being sent to you via e-mail. Within 30 minutes you will receive your Certificate of Completion.  If you do not receive your Certificate, check your "Junk" or "Bulk" e-mail file - it may be there.  Please Note:  Allow three to five business days before registering with CTEC to allow updating of your file.  Platinum Professional Studies reports the completion of the Course to CTEC electronically, which allows you to go to www.CTEC.org and renew your registration online.

It is unlawful for a Tax Preparer to prepare tax returns in California unless he/she is currently registered with CTEC and has a $5,000 Tax Preparer Bond in place.
